Jeffrey Sachs’s (‘viewpoint’) article ‘Why the shadow of WW1 and 1989 hangs over world events’, which was published on the BBC’s website on 16 December 2014 (last updated at 22:43 GMT), is the best article on world politics (written by an American) that I have read in a while*.
In fact, I am really surprised that the BBC (which is funded by the UK government as you may well know) dared to publish this article in the first place — although it is all in their honour**.
Do not hesitate to share this article by Jeffrey Sachs, entitled ‘Why the shadow of WW1 and 1989 hangs over world events’, BBC, 16 Dec 2014: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-30483873
* One caveat though: this subject is not my speciality and I therefore cannot claim any special competence in this domain except for a minimum level of critical sense and a certain degree of intellectual curiosity.
** However, for articles that offer even much deeper analyses, you will have to turn to non-Western news sources, for instance this article published on the website of the Russian government funded channel Russia Today on 15 October 2014:
